The sound cassettes consist primarily of interviews, musical performances, rituals, and three political party rallies for the Partí démocratique sénégalaís (PDS) and the Partí Socialíste (PS). The interviews are with Wolof, Pulaar, and Laobé Muslim women from Senegal regarding their life histories. The musical performances are of Taasu and Tagget, two genres of sung praise poetry, as performed at baptisms and other Baay Fall religious rituals. The Baay Fall are a sub-group of the Mouride religious brotherhood, which in turn belongs to the Sufi sect of Islam and follows the teachings of Amadu Bamba. The videocassettes document an entire baptism ceremony, including the giving of gifts and the performance of Taasu.
